A MEMORY BLOG ! WELCOME !!!

This blog pays homage to our grand-father, Raymond Troye, an officer in the Belgian army, a war prisoner 40-45. This blog presents some passages from his novel "MEURTRE DANS UN OFLAG" (written and published in French) and also some extracts from his diary (1938-1945) and his war correspondence (discovered after his death).

IS THE NARRATOR THE ASSASSIN ?

In a Bavarian camp, a war prisoner has just been murdered ! How terrible to die behind the barbed- wire. No doubt, the assassin is... another officer ! Terrifying ? Yes... But the worst is the situation of the narrator. Because of his "head wound" he is "sometimes" amnesic ! Where was he during the night of the crime ? What was he doing ? Impossible to remember. His only certainly : his hatred of the victim.

WHO REMEMBERS THE OFLAGS ?

Oflag is the abbreviation of the German : "Offizierlager" (camp for officers). During WW2 thousands of officers were held in captivity in those camps situated in the "greater Reich".

  1940-1942 :  Eichstätt (Bavaria) Oflag VII B

  1942-1943 :  Fischbeck (Hamburg) Oflag XD

  1943-1945 :  Prenzlau (Berlin) Oflag II A

1940 : RAYMOND TROYE, an officer in the Belgian army, was taken prisoner by the German army. In captivity, he wrote 5 novels. "Meurtre dans un oflag" is one of them. More than 60 years later, this novel is much more than an excellent detective story : it is a fantastic testimony !
